Graffiti is an intrinsic part of human nature that predates the Roman and the Egyptian cultures. Basically it's a hell of a lot more fun than pissing on fire hydrants.
Viewed as a whole graff has to stand apart from hip hop because it outdates it, I think that is what you are getting at with this heavy metal @#%$. However, I think since the inception of hip hop graff has taken a serious stylistic turn, now when we talk about it were referring to the subculture of burners, throwups, chromies and brooklyn link....ooh I'm gettin a stiffy... we're talkiin' graff yaknow?
But what about political graffiti, what about stencil artistry, and all those mad stickemup kids out there? What about all those knobs that STILL write AC/DC on everything? Is it all the same thing?

Graff needs a new name yo.

But even though GRAFFITI IS THE WORLDS ONLY MAJOR ART MOVEMENT SINCE POP ART IN THE 60'S and definitely the largest we can't get taken seriously so theres no in depth analysis by anyone except writers. And our short term memories aren't what they used to be. So until writers take themselves seriously and get their asses educated, cashed up, and respected by the mainstream we so callously resent you'll have to keep asking questions like this on the net instead of asking your art teacher at school.

Unless Futura, Seen, Zephyr, and all those other old school motherfuckkers who made so much out of this artform get tired of selling $200.00 tee shirts in Japan and try using their credentials to buy galleries, magazines, and anything else that might help their little brothers in crime pull themselves from scrawling on @#%$ that will get buffed tomorrow anyway, to finding fame on a whole new level.
